Part-Time Kitchen Assistant/Barista Evangelist
We are searching for a Kitchen assistant and Barista who is passionate about food, coffee and customers.
StoryHouse is an independent coffee shop church and charitable company at the heart of Crosby village. As well as serving awesome coffee we also host a variety of creative community activities throughout the week for all ages. We serve a selection of handcrafted drinks from locally roasted coffee and artisan hot chocolates, to freshly blended smoothies and iced drinks. Our existing menu covers simple breakfast and lunch options as well as hand crafted bakes created in house and by other local bakers, but we are looking to develop a more creative and fresh menu offering.
WORKING WITH US
We are looking for an enthusiastic new team member to join our small team of committed baristas and kitchen staff to contribute to the development of our menu and food presentation, bake and prepare food and serve awesome drinks. This is a part-time role for 20 hours per week, but more shifts may also become available at different points in the year and as the menu and business expands
The StoryHouse Project is a church that operates as a coffee shop and all our baristas are also evangelists who are available to pray and talk with people as appropriate. Therefore a lively and active Christian faith is a requirement of this role.
Pay: £8.21 per hour

Creative input into the development and implementation of a new menu.
Preparing food and baking to consistently high standards in accordance with food hygiene regulations.
Working collaboratively with the management team to ensure the on-going effective running of the café and the meeting of its objectives and targets.
Serving customers front of house, including the making of drinks, plating up of food and ongoing training.
Being available to pray with customers and answer their questions regarding the Christian faith and to act as a light touch spiritual support.
Helping with any customer enquiries or complaints in a friendly and helpful manner; referring to the Café Manager where necessary.
Operating the till and being aware of prices for all products and promotions.
To be knowledgeable about ingredients in all fresh products sold over the counter – be aware of allergens and any changes made to the menu on a daily basis.
Ensuring that the café is kept to a high standard of cleanliness which will include clearing tables and front of house as required and helping with the washing up of dirty dishes
Ensuring the presentation, delivery and quality of food and drink served is kept to a high standard.
Assist with keeping social media up to date e.g. Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts with opening times, news, discounts etc..
Taking responsibility for your own health & safety and the safety of others on the premises in accordance with procedures.
To perform any tasks as necessary to ensure a high standard of customer service is maintained.
Passionate about good food
Creative approach to food – someone with lots of ideas!
Experience with creating new dishes (domestically or professionally)
A friendly and welcoming personality
A desire to learn and develop
A hands on, can-do approach and ability to effectively manage a broad range of activities and think creatively
Ability to work, quickly, cleanly and efficiently, including when under pressure, with consistent high quality
Experience and enjoyment of working as part of a team
A lively and active Christian faith in line with StoryHouse’s core values
Attending StoryHouse Church at least once every two months
Flexibility with working hours and available to work some Saturdays
Some experience preparing and serving food
Customer service experience
Previous barista experience
Food hygiene certificate
An active interest in speciality coffee, food, art, music
